The brainchild of not one, not two, but three organizations in the red dot island of Singapore, ThreatMirror has its roots planted firmly in the intersection of government agencies, research institutes, and educational institutes.

ADSC researchers have been celebrating successes in emotion recognition for several years, from ranking among the top three in facial expression recognition competitions at ACM ICMI 2015 and 2016 to incorporating a spin-off, Opsis, that has been commercializing the technology in the domains of human resources, marketing, customer service and others.

Most university campuses employ security systems to help keep students, faculty, and staff safe. But because of their sheer size – the University of Illinois campus totals 6,370 acres, for example – it’s expensive to provide adequate coverage using traditional systems.

ADSC researchers have developed a tool, Cyber Security Argument Graph Evaluation (CyberSAGE), that allows security analysts to make practical and informed decisions about the security of their critical infrastructure system, such as a smart power grid.

Everyone knows that trips to Disneyland, Six Flags, or Sentosa are filled with laughs, rides, sugary food, and, of course, long lines. In hopes of reducing the frustration of lines, ADSC researchers are partnering with Sentosa, an amusement resort off Singapore’s southern coast, to dramatically decrease the time guests spend waiting for shuttle busses.

In Singapore, more than 40 percent of a building’s total energy consumption can be attributed to its chiller plant, according to ADSC Senior Research Scientist Zhenjie Zhang. By using new technology developed as a collaboration between ADSC and a Singapore air-conditioning company, Kaer, companies could save thousands of dollars per month on their energy bills.
