The U.S. Department of Energy has selected the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to lead a new five-year, $28.1USD million initiative that will develop cyber resilient energy delivery systems for the electric power and oil & gas industries.

ADSC researchers Varun Badrinath Krishna and Bill Sanders, along with University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign researcher Gabe Weaver, have received the best paper award for their work on smart meter security at the 12th International Conference on Quantitative Evaluation of Systems.

A team of ADSC smart grid researchers recently took second place in the Energy Efficiency for Everyone (E3) Hackathon, sponsored by Urban Prototyping Singapore, Energy Market Authority and Singapore Power.

ADSC and A*STAR recently approved four new research projects that will be conducted at ADSC’s offices in Singapore. The ADSC Technical Review Panel (TRP) and Program Management Steering Committee (PMSC) accepted these new projects during their meetings in August and September, respectively.

The average office building in the U.S. spends nearly 29 percent of its operating budget on utilities, according to MGE Energy in Wisconsin. On top of that, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that as much as 30 percent of consumed energy is being wasted due to factors such as idle computers, heating or cooling empty rooms or leaving lights on.
